Layered and layers of Chr Limited was revived in 1958 by GM President, Harlo Curtice after it was dropped in 1942. Curtice, the former design chief at Buick had his efforts to establish the Limited model as a competitor to Cadillac torpedoed and now was the time to bring it back. The re-launch of the Limited model also marked the end of an era at Buick.
For although no one could have foreseen it when the new Limited series was in the planning stages, 1958 turned out to be a recession year, with the economy experiencing its worst downturn since the 1930s. Few American cars of the era were more chrome-covered than the 1958 Buick Limited. True to the Limited heritage, the 1958 Limited was the top of the line, carrying the same dynamic “Fashion Air Dynastar” styling as other Flint products of the year, including a remarkable grille composed of 160 faceted chrome squares.
